Frequently Asked Questions
How loud is the motor?
No louder than a premium brand riding lawn mower. We use Kohler engines
with their largest mufflers installed. These engines are designed for
quiet operation. Kohler
uses a sound-deadening alloy crankcase and silenced air intake. This
allows the engine to run smooth and quiet.
How much does the motor weigh?
The 25 hp weighs only 165 lbs and fits well on 15ft boats and up.
How fast is a Bog Hog Mud Motor?
A 20 hp Bog Hog on a 15ft boat is capable of pulling a water skier. Pictures of this can be seen in the Customer's Comments section of the web site.
Is there reverse?
A universal joint connects the drive shaft directly to the engine. Neutral is achieved by pushing down on the handle bar, which lifts the propeller out of the water. There are no gears or reverse modes to fail, which allows these units to take a pounding from rocks and logs.
What type of paint is used?
Bog Hog Mud Motors uses a marine grade powder coat finish. Galvanized models are an available option.
What is required for maintenance and winterizing?
Unlike conventional outboard motors, these motors are virtually maintenance free. Other than minimal greasing, (3 easily accessible grease zerks) and engine oil and filter changes (every 100 hours) no other routine maintenance or winterizing is required (Refer to owners manual).
Where are you located?
Bog Hog Mud Motors, Inc is located in Willow Springs, NC just south of Raleigh. We have been manufacturing mud motors since 1998.
